Working on the Bramblewood Vest from Knotions. It's an awesome pattern with an interesting, top-down design. This is my handspun yarn from Ferndale Fiber's Ocean Blue Potluck Roving. I can't wait til it's finished!

I start too many projects. I'll never finish the ones I have. Therefore, I am contemplating embarking upon a wholly new and rather terrifying plan: PROJECT RIPPER.

There is this ungodly pile of knitting in my TV room that is a source of embarrassment to me, comprised of about twelve different projects. I think I'll tackle this tomorrow. If I find things less than 1/2 finished, out they go. Rip! If I find things over 1/2 finished--I'll finish 'em. Yep. Before I can start any new things, this must be completed.

I'm sure a lot of you have the same problem. You see a pattern or a yarn and think, OMG I must have that! I must knit that! And then you get into it and discover that it's no fun or you'll never wear it and never be able to pawn it off, either. I blame magazines, seductive yarn stores, and Ravelry, of course.

Well, there it is. I haven't been too diligent at following my own rules in the past. We'll see how far I get. Wish me luck!

From roving to singles to a plied skein.

Drop spindling on the Shetland roving I bought at WHIFFF. It's spinning up quite nicely now. Instead of doing a chain ply like I've been doing lately, I decided to go for the simpler two-ply look. I'm not sure what yardage I'll end up with out of 4 oz of roving, but it's spinning up to be a nice fluffy fingering weight. I'm thinking...lace? We'll see.

And I'm making slow progress on the cardigan--taking breaks to knit on socks and spin.

So much fiber, so little time.

Sunday I popped down with a friend to the south end of Whidbey Island for a fiber sale at Paradise Found Fiber Farm--look at the haul! 4 oz of alpaca/silk blend, 2 oz of PYGORA (drool), and 4 oz of hand painted Shetland roving. Who says you can have too much fun? Dang--now that I think about it, I should've taken better pics of the event. Bad blogger, no cookie.

Actually, the spinning and knitting are coming along nicely! I won a blue ribbon in August for my handspun shawl, and currently I'm working on a handspun, top-down yoke cardigan. I suppose, as with everything else, C.S. Lewis's Law of Undulation applies to spinning and knitting urges, as well.

This pattern is from www.spindlicity.com--check it out! (I don't know why blogger isn't hyperlinky thingie for me). I really enjoyed knitting it--it was fast! This is my handspun, which I'd finished probably three years ago or more and just now got around to working on.

I know the picture isn't that great, but when I took one of my own freaky mug modeling the hat, it nearly broke the damn camera *g*

I think this is going to be a great knitting year!

I thought it would be a useful strategy to make a deal with myself--finish one item and then allow myself to buy something new, like yarn or etc.

H'm. Like most strategies, we'll just see what the results are.

Other than that, I've been in a blog-dearth, since I've been knitting so much. Also, I bragged to the husband that I haven't caught cold all winter--and then guess what?

Yep. Worst. Cold. Evah. Is it still considered a cold when your joints ache, too? I did get a flu shot, after all...

A new year, a new resolve.

I don't know whether it's the weather where I'm at (cold, wet, wretched), or whether I'm on the verge of insanity, but I've been knitting and spinning up a storm (do forgive the reprehensible pun).

I've decided to spin for a new vest--Cheryl Oberle's Celtic Lattice--and I'm also working out some stash on a EZ style guernsey of my own device, with Priscilla Gibson-Roberts' Knitting in the Old Way for support.

This is the first skein I've finished so far for the main pattern color. It's a roving from Scarlet Fleece, in their colorway "Popsicle". I've spun it on my Schacht Matchless wheel and Navajo-plied it to keep the color separations distinct. I'm going to pair it with a dark natural brown handspun for the background.
